About Us

person coding

CodeBlack Academy is a 501(c)(3) organization (located in Ward 8, Washington, DC.) with one specific mission; increase the number of minority software engineers. Minorities are grossly underrepresented in this field due to the lack of exposure. By in large, minorities can’t compete for software engineering opportunities because we lack the desired skill set to effectively perform the jobs that are currently available. Unless we change things, our community will continue to be overlooked for these high paying jobs. The Bureau of Labor Statics predicts that by year 2024 there will be approximately 1.2 million unfilled computer programming jobs. Our mission is simple, expose and train minorities in the art/discipline of developing software. Simply put, we teach minorities how to code.

Prior knowledge in programming is not a requirement. The only requirement is your willingness to study because this rapid pace course will be extremely demanding.

Once I complete the program, am I guaranteed a job?

Nothing in life is guaranteed, however, our career placement services will help you land your first software development job. How long is the training class?

Our traning program spans 16 weeks. Our instructor led classes are held two nights a week and on Saturday morning. Just like life, we are dynamic, if we determine that more class time is needed, we will adjust the schedule accordingly.
